Chloe

Chloe came into our foster care through the Internet.  The family that currently owned her had recently discovered, much to their sorrow, that their young daughter was very allergic to animal dander.  They had already found new homes for their two cats and now needed to place Chloe, then named Keesha.

Her family found us through the 'Net and contacted Eileen early in March, 2000.  We met with them and agreed to bring Chloe into foster care.  She was a sweet, demure, laid-back Kees who lived to be scratched, petted, and adored.

Sadly, in March of 2002, Chloe began having problems. She refused to eat, yet always seemed to be hungry. We took her to the vet for tests and they tried several medications on her which seemed to help for a day or so, but then the same problems would return. The final option was exploratory surgery, which revealed a large, inoperable tumor on her pancreas which was pressing against her stomach, blocking the emptying of the stomach into the intestines. The vet told us that he could close her back up and send her home, but that, because she was refusing to eat, we wouldn't have her very long, and that she would be in pain the entire time. Instead, we chose to have them put her the rest of the way to sleep.

Goodbye, sweet little Chloe. We were lucky to have you in our lives, and I still look at the corner of my office where you used to lay, expecting to see you there. We'll meet again at the Rainbow Bridge.
