Eileen received a call early in May, 2000, from a local rescue group, Foster Pet Outreach, about a Keeshond that needed to come into rescue. FPO did not have any room for her and they wondered if we could take her. We arranged to meet with the dog's owner, who was having to give her up for logistical reasons. The dog's name was "Keesha" -- her owner named her that so she wouldn't forget what breed she was. Well, with Keesha seemingly the most frequently-used name for dogs of this breed, we decided that something a tad more original was in order. So, even though we still call her "Keesha," her "official" name is "Keesha-Lorraine." (Yes, I love puns!) Keesha's somewhere between eight and ten years old. She's a spunky, feisty, talkative girl. In fact, she was a little too talkative when we first got her. We suspect that she had been abused and/or neglected somewhat and had learned to do a lot of shrill barking (we call it "shrieking") to get the attention she needed. It has taken a while, but we've worked patiently with her and she is much less insistent now and tends to shriek only when she's very excited, when we're getting her dinner ready, or when she absolutely, positively needs to go outside. Update, March 2002: We have decided to incorporate
Keesha into our permanent pack. She's getting on in years now and her
eyesight is beginning to fade a bit. So, we've removed her from the "Adoptables"
list and have moved her into the "Our Pack" side of the website. This page was last updated on Saturday, 10 August, 2002 by Jon Westcot. |
