Spinner was our first real rescue. We received a call about a Kees in the St. Louis, Missouri, shelter. All reports were that this was a nice, well-behaved dog but, for some reason, no one had adopted him and his time was short. Eileen hustled herself down to St. Louis, signed the necessary papers, paid the necessary fees, and returned with the dog. He was very thin, and very shy with us, but he really liked our Golden Retriever, Houska, a lot, and he quickly warmed up to Chessie. During his extended stay in St. Louis, he had been in a very small cage and he apparently developed the habit of circling around in the cage all day long. He kept this habit up after we brought him home, pacing little circles on the floor, walking in circles around us, even circling around us as we sat at the dining room table. With a habit like that, was it any wonder we named him Spinner? Spinner soon readjusted to people and proved to be a very fun-loving, attention-starved dog. We needed to do only minimal work with him to reinforce his housebreaking. We soon got his biography posted to the Keeshond Rescue Web site and, not long thereafter, we were contacted by the Voorhees family in northern Illinois about adopting him.
